boAt Labs, the research and development division of boAt, has achieved a remarkable feat by developing an indigenous Neckband IP. This accomplishment not only showcases their innovation but also highlights the potential for value-driven engineering in India.

The development of this neckband IP was carried out under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiative in partnership with the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) of Mobile Enhancements.

A Modern Center for Innovation

The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Noida, houses the state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence (CoE). It is a part of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) initiative in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA).

The CoE offers world-class infrastructure and expertise to promote the development of innovative electronic products. boAt Labs leveraged this support to create the neckband IP, enhancing the design ecosystem in India.

boAt and ICEA Join Hands

boAt becomes the first consumer lifestyle electronics company to collaborate with ICEA for the development of Indigenous IP. The neckband IP, a feature-rich product, brings great value to Indian brands and consumers.

boAt Labs’ R&D engineers worked with global technology partners, component suppliers, and distribution partners to optimize the Bill of Material (BOM) and choose the system-on-chip (SoC). This IP also integrates advanced algorithms to enhance user experiences like audio and call quality.

Strengthening India’s Electronics Industry

The development of this neckband IP marks a significant step toward increasing domestic value addition and making the Indian electronics industry globally competitive. It underlines the ability of Indian companies to innovate and produce high-quality, cost-effective products.

boAt Labs’ IP ecosystem will reduce India’s reliance on foreign companies for electronic products. This empowers Indian consumer electronics companies to create neckband products in-house, rather than depending on foreign designs, democratizing the IP for the Indian market.

Speaking at the announcement, Pankaj Mohindroo – Chairman at ICEA, said:

The development of the neckband IP is a shining example of the ingenuity, design prowess, and innovation within the Indian electronics sector. We eagerly anticipate further collaborations with boAt Labs to produce additional IPs.

These innovations hold the potential to expedite the expansion of India’s electronics industry and establish the nation as a worldwide epicenter for electronics design and manufacturing.

Commenting on the collaboration, Sameer Mehta, Co-Founder and CEO at Imagine Marketing Limited (parent company of boAt), said:

boAt is deeply dedicated to the nation’s progress. This achievement underscores the potential of India’s collaborative efforts involving the public and private sectors, industry knowledge, and infrastructure to create groundbreaking IPs. It marks a noteworthy stride in nurturing upcoming national champions.

We remain committed to our collaborations with esteemed industry organizations like ICEA, offering technical guidance, product mentoring, and expert insights in the realms of audio and wearables.

Commenting on the partnership, Naveen M Hiremath, Head boAt Labs (R&D division of boAt), said:

We take immense pride in unveiling our indigenous neckband IP, crafted in collaboration with ICEA. This represents a momentous achievement, not only for us but for the entire Indian electronics sector. We envision this IP as a catalyst, empowering Indian brands to offer superior products at highly competitive prices.

Our unwavering commitment lies in bolstering the ‘Make in India’ initiative and fortifying the electronics industry. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Ramashish Ray, a seasoned electronics industry leader, and his dedicated team at the Centre of Excellence (Noida), whose active involvement significantly contributed to our success.
