Samsung Galaxy S24 to stick to 8GB RAM, S24 Ultra opts out of 16GB RAM: Report

Samsung is gearing up to unveil its next flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 series, in less than two months. The RAM details for these phones have been revealed by tipster Ice Universe.

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy S24 will only come with 8GB of RAM, while the S24+ will offer options of 8GB and 12GB RAM. Surprisingly, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will also have 8GB and 12GB RAM choices, with no 16GB RAM variant, contrary to earlier rumors.

Ice Universe suggests that Samsung Mobile head TM Roh is responsible for this decision and said that Roh insisted on sticking with 8GB for the S24, citing the memory-intensive requirements of One UI 6’s backend memory management mechanism, though the reason remains unclear. The RAM and storage specifics, possibly LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0, are still unknown.

Samsung recently teased Galaxy AI, expected to launch with the Galaxy S24 series, promising on-device AI that demands more memory. The company’s decision not to increase RAM in its flagship phones for four consecutive years may disappoint consumers, as other Android brands offer smartphones with 16GB or even more.

Despite these details, the Galaxy S24 series has been largely revealed through leaks and renders. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the S24 and S24+ could have either Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 SoCs.

Pre-order and sale dates for the Galaxy S24 series have surfaced, with the launch event scheduled for January 17, 2024, in San Jose, USA.
